Why is this happening?

I brought my a small Plumeria tree in in September well before the first frost here. It has done well until this week. Last week I noticed that instead of growing toward the window to natural light it was growing toward the light in the center of the room. I have kept the curtains open wider this week to give more natural light and the leaves have turned yellow and are starting to fall off. What could be the problem? I use an Aqua Globe for watering and it hasn’t failed me yet. What could be wrong?

three factors make the tree grow towards light in the center of the room.

1. Natural light though visible to us is insulated due to glass insulation (which is there to protect heat loss from the apartment !) and hence you can see it but plant cannot feel it.
2. Heating in the apartment makes the outside heat negligible.
3. with the heated apartment, the center light is brigher source for the plant to grow towards it.

As regards it loosing its leaves, it may be due to two reasons
1. The plant is shedding leaves (after they turn yellow) due to season - as outside also you have seen it happening
or
2. the plant is not able to adjust to the heated apartment and there is moisture impairment due to which it is drying off.
i suggest you do some research on that species on the Internet to know about proper care to be taken.

You have done nothing wrong!!!…It is just going dormant!!!!! The leaves WILL grow back in time but you may want to cut back on the water for a period of time
